The debt ceiling debate in Washington has reached a boiling point as members of Congress clash over spending cuts. Democratic Representative Pramila Jayapal issued a dire warning on Tuesday – stating that there will be “backlash in the streets” if President Joe Biden agrees to the Republican demand for spending cuts to accompany any increase in the limit to the national debt. Republicans led by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy are pushing to secure an increase in the debt ceiling with spending cuts attached. Democrats, however, want a “clean” debt ceiling increase.
